The Hellenic Survey of Geology and Mineral Exploration is promoting the construction of minerals with LEGO® for educational purposes, in collaboration with Italian geologist and LEGO enthusiast Dario Del Frate, the creator of the idea.
The H.S.G.M.E. has signed a memorandum of cooperation with Dario Del Frate, and voting is currently underway on the LEGO Ideas platform (idea.lego.com) to support this initiative. Once the required 10,000 votes are gathered, LEGO will determine the production stages for the mineral model components. The H.S.G.M.E. has set a condition that production must maintain the educational and scientific purpose of the idea, and that the collection will be based on mineral exhibits from its museum. As part of the organization’s outreach efforts, the collaboration with LEGO® will also highlight the identity of the Authority (Hellenic Survey of Geology and Mineral Exploration – H.S.G.M.E.).
It is worth noting that the H.S.G.M.E. is one of the educational destinations approved by the Ministry of Education. Renovation works are already underway at the Museum of Minerals and Rocks, with the goal of creating the First National Geological Museum. The museum will host existing collections while being enriched with additional exhibits, showcasing Greece’s geological wealth and geo-cultural heritage. The H.S.G.M.E. has already secured preliminary approval from the Ministry of Culture for the museum’s official recognition.
