The Head of the Regional Unit of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace of H.S.G.M.E., Mr. Dimitrios Exioglou, held a meeting with the Mayor of Samothraki, Mr. Nikos Galatoumos.
During the meeting, special reference was made to the multifaceted work of H.S.G.M.E. and its applications for Local Government. In particular, Mr. Exioglou presented the SAMY II project, which concerns the systematic recording of water boreholes throughout the Greek territory, and ways of utilizing geothermal energy in the area were also discussed. A follow-up meeting between the two sides is planned for the near future.
The Hellenic Survey of Geology and Mineral Exploration (H.S.G.M.E.) actively supports Local Government. Both the Directors of the Service Units based in Acharnes and the Heads of the Regional Units maintain ongoing communication with elected officials, responding promptly to requests related to water supply, the prevention of landslides following natural phenomena (rainfalls, earthquakes, etc.), and the utilization of geothermal energy and underground resources.
