The General Secretariat for Energy and Mineral Raw Materials has as its main mission the formulation of policies in the fields of energy and the utilization of mineral resources, the adoption of the necessary measures for their implementation, and the supervision of all entities related to the country’s energy and mineral wealth.
Within this framework, modernization of services, institutional upgrading, and the development of projects that foster entrepreneurship and innovation are essential. In this specific action, these objectives will be reflected through the creation of a model study for management plans aimed at the sustainable utilization of the country’s low-enthalpy geothermal energy potential.
HSGME, as the officially designated advisor to the Hellenic State in geothermal matters, has undertaken the implementation of Subproject 1 titled “Management Plans for Low-Temperature Geothermal Fields,” with a total budget of €115,000.
The main objective is the preparation of a model Management Plan study for local geothermal fields (with temperatures below 90°C), intended to serve as a reference for the preparation of similar plans for other geothermal sites.
Within this Action, a prototype study for the management plans of local geothermal fields will be developed, based on real-world conditions.
Dynamic simulation models of geothermal reservoirs will be developed to allow for the re-evaluation of their energy content. The primary goal is to provide the competent authorities with optimal exploitation scenarios.
The geothermal field management plans will ensure data-driven strategies for the sustainable and rational utilization of geothermal resources by companies active in the sector, supporting the long-term management of local geothermal fields.
The selected geothermal fields are: (1) Erasmio in Xanthi Prefecture and (2) Nigrita in Serres Prefecture (alternatively, if no activity is present in the Nigrita field, the geothermal fields of Erateino in Kavala Prefecture or Apollonia-Volvi in Thessaloniki Prefecture will be considered).
