The proposed project aims to systematically monitor the condition and trends of Greece’s most significant groundwater systems. Special emphasis is placed on assessing the quantitative and qualitative status of aquifers identified as “at risk,” in relation to the pressures they face. This evaluation will ensure that any required intervention measures to halt or reverse water quality degradation are supported by sound hydrogeological evidence.
Covering all 14 Water Districts of Greece, the project encompasses a series of actions and activities focused on collecting essential hydrological, hydrogeological, hydrochemical, and physicochemical data. The processing and analysis of this data will enable compliance with the specific requirements of EU Directives 2000/60/EC, 2006/118/EC, and 91/676/EEC.
